Gun Law Reform

Gun laws in the United States of America are a subject of controversy for many years. Several legislative statutes have been passed for gun law reform in the United States of America. Not only among the political parties but also there was difference of opinion among the citizen of the country about the gun law.

Recently, President Obama also called for gun law reform to lower gun violence. He declared certain methods for enhancing the National Instant Criminal Background Check System’s or NICS effectiveness in controlling violence of firearms. The President even declared an incentive system for rewarding those states, which will provide the accurate and best information to the database of NICS. He figured out the necessity for “an instant, accurate, comprehensive, and consistent system for background checks."

Showing his faith on both the sides of the debates of the gun laws reform, the President states he believes the gun user as well as the gun maker are aware of their responsibility. Thus, no one is sure to commit any illegal act that can bring negative effect on gun law of the country.

The federal law does not permit all the citizens to own and use guns and firearms. The federal law poses restrictions to the use of firearms and guns on people such as felons, illegal immigrants, drug abusers, mental defectives, and the minors. However, since long time the U.S. has seen various measures of gun law reform. Several new acts were passed as a reform to the old and existing gun laws to control violence and bring peace in the country.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives or ATF has the authority to regulate the gun law acts in the United States. However, there are various gun laws for different states of the country. The state gun laws are also subjected to frequent changes. The state gun laws are often reformed or amended keeping pace with the demand and nature of the present situation.

Restrictions and permissions to use firearm in different states of the country also vary according to the state gun law acts.

Some people believe that gun law will bring safety and peaceful ambience in the country while some other states that the gun laws are opposed to the constitutional laws of the U.S.A. The supporters however, give their consent for gun law stating that citizens have right to own and use guns and firearms for personal safety. In fact, the legislative regulations of gun law are for the sake of the country’s security. However, the opponents believe that gun laws have chance to increase the risk of criminal offense in the country.

The gun law history of the U.S. has been subjected to various criticisms as well as different changes. However, it is always expected that makers and users of firearms should abide by the laws and must not do any illegal acts. Gun law reform must be to enhance personal and national safety and must not turn into the source of violence.
